Mixing Time45 seconds

Preparation:

Ensure all trays and instruments are clean and dry.

Use a flexible rubber or plastic mixing bowl and a stiff spatula.

Recommended water temperature: 20–22°C (cooler water increases working time; warmer water decreases it).

Mixing:

Measure
the required amount of alginate powder and water according to the
manufacturer's recommended powder-to-water ratio (typically 2 scoops
powder to 1 measure of water; confirm on the packaging).

Add water to the bowl first, followed by the powder.

Mix vigorously for 45–60 seconds until a smooth, creamy, homogeneous consistency is achieved.

Loading the Tray:

Quickly load the alginate into the impression tray, avoiding air bubbles.

Smooth the surface with a damp gloved finger to ensure patient comfort.

Taking the Impression:

Position the tray in the patient’s mouth and gently seat it in place.

Hold the tray steadily in position until the material sets (usually around 60–90 seconds; refer to the exact setting time on the product label).

Avoid movement during setting to ensure accuracy.

Removal:

Once set, remove the impression tray with a quick, firm motion to avoid tearing.

Rinse the impression under cool running water to remove any debris or saliva.

Disinfection:

Disinfect
the impression using a suitable alginate-compatible disinfectant spray
or immersion method according to standard infection control protocols.

Do not leave the impression in disinfectant longer than recommended.

Storage:

Wrap the impression in a moist paper towel and place it in a sealed plastic bag if not pouring immediately.

Pour the cast within 15–30 minutes for best dimensional accuracy.
