Rybelsus 14mg Tablet contains Semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist, used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Benefits

Rybelsus 14mg Tablet effectively lowers blood sugar and A1C levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It also helps reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events such as heart attack, stroke, or death in high-risk adults with type 2 diabetes. While not specifically approved for weight loss, some individuals may experience weight reduction during treatment.

Uses and Indications

• To improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, used alongside diet and exercise.
• To reduce the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events (cardiovascular death, non-fatal myocardial infarction, or non-fatal stroke) in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus who are at high risk for these events.

The Rybelsus 14mg Tablet contains:

• Active ingredient: Semaglutide 14mg.
• Inactive ingredients: magnesium stearate, microcrystalline cellulose, povidone, and salcaprozate sodium (SNAC).

Dosage and Administration

1. Initial Dosing: Treatment typically starts with a 3 mg dose once daily for 30 days, followed by an increase to 7 mg once daily.
2. Maintenance Dose: If additional glycemic control is needed after at least 30 days on the 7 mg dose, the dosage may be increased to 14 mg once daily.
3. Administration: Take one Rybelsus 14mg Tablet once daily, at least 30 minutes before the first food, beverage, or other oral medications of the day. Swallow the tablet whole with no more than 4 ounces (120 ml) of plain water. Do not split, crush, or chew the tablet.
4. Missed Dose: If a dose is missed, skip the missed dose and take the next dose the following day. Do not take two doses to make up for a missed dose.

Storage and Disposal

• Store at room temperature, between 68°F to 77°F (20°C to 25°C).
• Keep the tablets in the closed Rybelsus bottle until ready to take, in a dry place away from moisture.
• Keep out of reach of children.

Precautions and Safety

• Rybelsus is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
• Do not use if there is a prior serious hypersensitivity reaction to semaglutide or any of its excipients.
• Not intended for use in patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus or for the treatment of diabetic ketoacidosis.
• Semaglutide has been shown to cause thyroid C-cell tumors in rodents; the human relevance of this finding is unknown.
• There is a risk of pancreatitis, gallbladder problems, kidney problems, and diabetic retinopathy complications.
• Monitor for hypoglycemia when Rybelsus is used concomitantly with insulin secretagogues or insulin.
• Rybelsus delays gastric emptying, which may influence the absorption of other oral medications.
• Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception during treatment. Rybelsus is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Side Effects and Risks

• Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, decreased appetite, and constipation. These are often more pronounced when starting treatment or after dose increases and usually subside over time.
• Serious side effects, though less common, can include pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas), gallbladder problems, kidney problems, severe allergic reactions (e.g., hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat), and vision changes (diabetic retinopathy).
• Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) is a possible risk, especially when Rybelsus is used in combination with other diabetes medications like insulin or sulfonylureas.
