Mounjaro 5Mg Kwikpen

Mounjaro 5Mg Kwikpen contains tirzepatide, a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist, used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes and for weight management in adults who are overweight or obese.

Benefits

Mounjaro 5Mg Kwikpen helps improve blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It also supports weight reduction by enhancing insulin sensitivity and reducing appetite. For obese adults, it can assist in managing moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea. This once-weekly injectable device offers a convenient administration method.

Uses and Indications

• Treatment of adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes mellitus, as an adjunct to diet and exercise.
• Weight management, including weight loss and maintenance, in adults with obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m²) or overweight (BMI ≥ 27 kg/m²) with at least one weight-related comorbid condition (e.g., hypertension, dyslipidaemia, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes, or type 2 diabetes mellitus), as an adjunct to a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
• Treatment of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) in adults with obesity.

The Mounjaro 5Mg Kwikpen contains:

• Tirzepatide 5 mg (active ingredient).
• Inactive ingredients: Sodium chloride, sodium phosphate dibasic heptahydrate, water for injection, hydrochloric acid solution and/or sodium hydroxide solution (for pH adjustment), benzyl alcohol.

Dosage and Administration

1. The recommended starting dose is 2.5 mg injected subcutaneously once weekly for four weeks.
2. After four weeks, the dose should be increased to 5 mg injected subcutaneously once weekly.
3. Further dose increases, if needed for glycemic control, should be in 2.5 mg increments after at least four weeks on the current dose, up to a maximum of 15 mg once weekly.
4. Administer the injection once weekly at any time of day, with or without meals.
5. Inject subcutaneously in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, rotating the injection site with each dose.
6. Each KwikPen contains four fixed doses and should be discarded 30 days after first use or after the fourth weekly dose, whichever comes first.

Storage and Disposal

• Store unopened Mounjaro KwikPen in a refrigerator between 2°C and 8°C. Do not freeze.
• Keep the pen in its original carton to protect it from light.
• Once opened, the KwikPen can be stored either in the refrigerator (2°C to 8°C) or at room temperature (below 30°C) for up to 30 days.
• Dispose of used pens and needles in a puncture-resistant container as advised by your doctor or pharmacist.

Precautions and Safety

• Mounjaro carries a Boxed Warning for the risk of thyroid C-cell tumors. It is contraindicated in patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
• Use with caution in patients with a history of pancreatitis; discontinue if pancreatitis is suspected.
• Monitor blood sugar levels closely, especially if using other diabetes medications, due to the risk of hypoglycemia.
• Gastrointestinal side effects like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are common, particularly during dose escalation, and can lead to dehydration and acute kidney injury. Ensure adequate fluid intake.
• Gallbladder problems, including gallstones and cholecystitis, have been reported.
• Patients with a history of diabetic retinopathy should be monitored for progression.
• Do not share the Mounjaro KwikPen with another person, even if the needle is changed, to prevent the transmission of blood-borne infections.
• Mounjaro delays gastric emptying, which may affect the absorption of concomitantly administered oral medications.
• Each 0.6 mL dose contains 5.4 mg benzyl alcohol, which may cause allergic reactions. Patients with hepatic or renal impairment should be aware of the potential risk of metabolic acidosis.

Side Effects and Risks

• Very common side effects (affecting more than 1 in 10 people) include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and constipation.
• Common side effects may include decreased appetite, indigestion, abdominal pain, burping, gas, bloating, heartburn, hair loss, dizziness, fatigue, injection site reactions, low blood pressure, changes in taste, and changes in skin sensation.
• Serious side effects, though rare, can include acute pancreatitis, severe allergic reactions (swelling of face, lips, tongue, throat; breathing/swallowing problems; severe rash; fainting; rapid heartbeat), and gallbladder problems. Seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
