Bactigras contains chlorhexidine acetate BP 0.5% in a white soft paraffin base. This antiseptic agent is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms, including MRSA, making it effective for both contaminated and already-infected wounds when used alongside systemic antibacterials.

The open weave gauze design allows viscous exudate to pass through efficiently into an absorbent secondary dressing, facilitating optimal drainage and healing. This non-adherent structure also prevents trauma to the wound bed during dressing changes.

Bactigras is suitable for minor burns and scalds, lacerations, abrasions and other skin loss wounds, donor and recipient graft sites, and leg ulcers. It is indicated for wounds where there is a risk of infection or on already infected wounds in conjunction with systemic antibacterials.

Bactigras can remain in place for up to four days, minimizing the need for frequent changes. Application involves cleaning and drying the wound, placing the sterile dressing directly over the wound, covering with an absorbent secondary dressing, and securing with adhesive tape or bandage. Replace as per clinical advice or after four days.
