Dosage and Administration

  1. Adults: The typical recommended dosage is one 600 mg effervescent tablet once daily.
  2. Preparation: Dissolve one effervescent tablet completely in half a glass of water. Stir the solution and drink it immediately. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
  3. Timing: Take the medication at the same time each day to maintain consistent levels. It can be taken with or after food to help prevent mild stomach upset. Patients with a reduced cough reflex, such as elderly or weakened individuals, are advised to take the tablet in the mornings.

 

Storage and Disposal

  • Store this medicine at a temperature below 30°C.
  • Protect it from direct sunlight and moisture.

Precautions and Safety

  • Acetylcysteine may enhance the vasodilatory effects of nitroglycerin; caution is advised if these medications are used together.
  • In rare cases, severe skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome and Lyell's syndrome have been reported. Seek immediate medical advice if any new cutaneous or mucosal alterations occur.
  • An increased volume of liquefied bronchial secretions may occur, particularly at the start of treatment. If the patient is unable to effectively cough up secretions, mechanical suction may be necessary.

 

Side Effects and Risks

  • Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, headache, skin rash, tinnitus, gastric reflux, fever, and chills.
  • Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions such as urticaria or bronchospasm may be observed.
  • Consult your doctor if any of these symptoms worsen or persist.
