Zavicefta 2.5gm Injection

Zavicefta 2.5gm Injection contains Ceftazidime (2g) and Avibactam (0.5g), an antibiotic combination used to treat severe bacterial infections.

Uses and Indications

• Complicated intra-abdominal infections (cIAI).
• Complicated urinary tract infections (cUTI), including pyelonephritis.
• Hospital-acquired pneumonia (HAP), including ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP).
• Infections caused by aerobic Gram-negative bacteria in adult patients with limited treatment options.
• Bacteraemia associated with, or suspected to be associated with, any of the above infections.

The Zavicefta 2.5gm Injection contains:

• Ceftazidime pentahydrate equivalent to Ceftazidime 2g (active ingredient).
• Avibactam sodium equivalent to Avibactam 0.5g (active ingredient).
• Sterile sodium carbonate (anhydrous).

Dosage and Administration

1. Zavicefta 2.5gm Injection is administered by a healthcare professional as an intravenous infusion.
2. The infusion is typically given over 2 hours, usually three times daily (every 8 hours).
3. The exact dose and duration of treatment will be determined by your doctor based on the type and severity of your infection, and your kidney function.

Precautions and Safety

Side Effects and Risks

• Common side effects include nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, rash, and phlebitis at the infusion site.
• Diarrhoea is a common side effect; if it becomes severe, watery, or bloody, contact your doctor immediately as it could indicate a serious intestinal infection.
• Less common but serious side effects can include severe skin reactions, confusion, hallucinations, seizures, and a positive Coombs test (a sign of antibodies attacking red blood cells).
