Dalacin C 600mg 4ml Injection contains Clindamycin, an antibiotic used to treat various serious bacterial infections.

• Intra-abdominal infections like peritonitis and abscesses.
• Septicaemia (blood poisoning by bacteria) and endocarditis.
• Bone and joint infections, including osteomyelitis and septic arthritis.
• Prophylaxis of infection in certain surgical procedures, especially in patients allergic to penicillin.
• Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia in AIDS patients, in combination with primaquine.
• Malaria, including multi-resistant Plasmodium falciparum, in combination with quinine.

The Dalacin C 600mg 4ml Injection contains:

• Clindamycin phosphate equivalent to Clindamycin 150 mg/mL (600 mg in 4 mL) (active ingredient).
• Excipients: benzyl alcohol and disodium edetate.

Dosage and Administration

Dalacin C 600mg 4ml Injection is administered by a doctor or trained nurse, either into a vein (intravenous drip) or into a muscle (intramuscular). For intravenous administration, the injection must be diluted prior to use, and the concentration of clindamycin in the diluent should not exceed 18 mg per mL. Infusion rates should not exceed 30 mg per minute. The exact dose and duration of treatment will be determined by the prescribing doctor based on the patient's condition, the type and severity of the infection, age, and body weight. It is important to complete the full course of treatment as prescribed, even if symptoms improve, to ensure complete eradication of the infection and prevent antibiotic resistance.

Precautions and Safety

• Inform your doctor if you have a history of gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, or antibiotic-associated colitis, as severe diarrhoea may occur.

• Tell your doctor about all medicines, supplements, or herbal products you are currently taking to avoid potential interactions, especially muscle relaxants, blood thinners (like warfarin), or other anti-infectives.
• If you are taking oral contraceptive pills, use additional contraception during treatment and for seven days after, as Dalacin C may reduce their effectiveness.
• Inform your doctor if you have asthma, eczema, or hay fever.
• Avoid rapid intravenous administration, as rare instances of cardiopulmonary arrest and hypotension have been reported.
• Do not receive live bacterial vaccines (e.g., oral typhoid vaccine) while on this medication, as it may affect vaccine activity.
• Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before receiving this medicine.
• This medicine contains benzyl alcohol, which should be considered, especially in premature babies or neonates.

Side Effects and Risks

• Common side effects include stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, heartburn, and pain or swelling at the injection site.
• Severe or prolonged diarrhoea, which may be watery or bloody, can occur during or after treatment and may indicate bowel inflammation (pseudomembranous colitis); report this to your doctor immediately.
• Other possible side effects include skin rash, itching, hives, and abnormal liver function test results.
• Rare but serious side effects include severe skin reactions (e.g., Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis), allergic reactions (rashes, itching, swelling, shortness of breath), and blood abnormalities. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any severe allergic reactions.
• This medicine may cause dizziness or fatigue; do not drive or operate machinery if you experience these effects.
