Formulated as a glass ionomer cement, 3M Ketac Cem is composed of a blend of glass powders and polyacrylic acid, resulting in a durable and biocompatible material. It features a self-cure activation mechanism, allowing for ample working time and achieving a strong, reliable bond without light activation. The cement is delivered as a powder and liquid system, designed for hand mixing on a pad or glass slab.
The cement offers a working time of 3 minutes 30 seconds, including mixing, and a setting time of 7 minutes from the start of the mix. Its low film thickness optimizes the fit and marginal integrity of restorations, while its inherent fluoride release contributes to protection against caries.
