Uses and Indications

  • Impetigo, a contagious skin infection characterized by red sores and crusts.
  • Folliculitis, an infection of hair follicles causing red bumps.
  • Furunculosis, commonly known as boils, caused by bacterial infection.
  • Ecthyma.
  • Secondary infections associated with dermatosis and traumatic injuries.
  • Infected minor cuts, small wounds, and abrasions.
  • Prevention and treatment of infections in minor burns.
  • Treatment of skin infections caused by Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pyogenes.
  • May be used to remove antibiotic-resistant bacteria from the nose to prevent hospital spread, under medical guidance.

Dosage and Administration

  1. This ointment is for external use only.
  2. Clean and dry the affected skin area thoroughly before applying the ointment.
  3. Apply a small quantity of the ointment to cover the affected area.
  4. Gently rub it in.
  5. Apply 2-3 times daily, or as specifically directed by your doctor.
  6. Wash your hands before and after applying the medicine, unless your hands are the area being treated.
  7. The treated area may be covered with a sterile dressing or bandage if advised by your doctor.
  8. Do not use for more than 10 days unless your doctor prescribes a longer duration.
  9. Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed, even if your symptoms begin to improve earlier, to prevent recurrence of the infection.

 

Storage and Disposal

  • Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C.
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Close the tube cover immediately after each use to maintain cleanliness and prevent contamination.
  • Do not freeze the ointment.
  • Discard any remaining product at the end of the treatment course.

Precautions and Safety

  • This ointment is for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, mouth, or nose.
  • If accidental contact occurs with eyes or mouth, rinse thoroughly with clean water immediately.
  • Do not apply on large open wounds, deep cuts, serious burns, or puncture wounds without medical supervision. Exercise caution when applying to skin with any open wounds.
  • T Bact 2% 15gm Ointment is effective only against bacterial infections; it should not be used for fungal or viral infections.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding before using this medicine.
  • Do not use more than the prescribed amount or for longer periods than recommended to avoid the development of antibiotic resistance and potential yeast infections.
  • Discontinue use and consult a doctor if severe local irritation, redness, itching, swelling, or a sensitisation reaction occurs.
  • Consult your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 3-7 days or if they worsen.
  • Do not mix this ointment with other preparations, as this may lead to dilution, reduced antibacterial activity, and potential loss of stability.
  • Prolonged use may result in the overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms.
  • If prolonged or significant diarrhoea occurs, or if you experience abdominal cramps during or after antibiotic use, discontinue treatment immediately and seek medical advice.

 

Side Effects and Risks

  • Common side effects include a burning sensation, stinging, skin pain, itching, redness, dryness, and rashes at the application site.
  • Rare but severe side effects may include systemic allergic reactions such as generalised rash, urticaria, angioedema, blistering, swelling of the face or throat, difficulty breathing, wheezing, fainting, severe dizziness, abdominal cramps, and diarrhoea. Seek immediate medical attention if any severe reaction occurs.
