Eliquis 5mg Tablet contains Apixaban 5mg, an anticoagulant used to prevent and treat blood clots in various conditions.

 

Benefits

Eliquis 5mg Tablet effectively reduces the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in individuals with non-valvular atrial fibrillation. It also helps prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) following hip or knee replacement surgery. Furthermore, it is used to treat existing DVT and PE, and to lower the chance of these blood clots recurring.

 

Uses and Indications

  • Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in adult patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF).
  • Prophylaxis of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which may lead to pulmonary embolism (PE), in adult patients who have undergone elective hip or knee replacement surgery.
  • Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
  • Reduction in the risk of recurrent DVT and PE following initial therapy.

The Eliquis 5mg Tablet contains:

  • Apixaban 5mg (active ingredient).
  • Excipients: anhydrous lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, sodium lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate, lactose monohydrate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide, triacetin, and red iron oxide.

Dosage and Administration

  1. Take Eliquis 5mg Tablet orally twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart, to maintain consistent anticoagulation.
  2. This medicine can be taken with or without food.
  3. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as you remember on the same day, then resume the regular twice-daily schedule. Do not double the dose to compensate for a missed one.
  4. For patients unable to swallow whole tablets, Eliquis tablets may be crushed and suspended in water, 5% glucose in water (G5W), or apple juice, or mixed with apple puree/applesauce and administered immediately.

 

Storage and Disposal

  • Store Eliquis 5mg Tablet below 30°C.
  • Keep the medicine in a secure location, away from excessive heat, moisture, and direct sunlight.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Dispose of any unused or expired medication safely, in accordance with local requirements.

Precautions and Safety

  • Eliquis 5mg Tablet increases the risk of bleeding; patients should be carefully observed for signs of hemorrhage.
  • It is contraindicated in patients with active clinically significant bleeding or severe hypersensitivity to apixaban.
  • Not recommended for patients with severe hepatic impairment or hepatic disease associated with coagulopathy and clinically relevant bleeding risk.
  • Avoid concomitant use with other anticoagulants due to an increased risk of bleeding.
  • Inform your doctor about any pre-existing liver, heart, or kidney conditions.
  • Discontinue Eliquis at least 48 hours prior to elective surgery or invasive procedures with a moderate or high risk of bleeding, or 24 hours prior for low-risk procedures.
  • Breastfeeding is not recommended while using this medicine.

 

Side Effects and Risks

  • The most common side effect is bleeding more easily than normal, such as nosebleeds or bruising.
  • Other reported side effects include hematoma, anemia, and nausea.
  • Rarely, skin rash or allergic reactions may occur.
