Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet contains Apixaban, an anticoagulant that helps prevent and treat blood clots by blocking Factor Xa, a key component in blood clotting.

 

Benefits

This medicine effectively reduces the risk of serious clot-related conditions such as stroke and systemic embolism in patients with an irregular heartbeat. It is also used to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) following hip or knee replacement surgery, and to treat existing DVT and PE.

 

Uses and Indications

  • Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in adults with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) who have one or more risk factors.
  • Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) in adult patients who have undergone elective hip or knee replacement surgery.
  • Treatment of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).
  • Prevention of recurrent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE).

The Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet contains:

  • Apixaban 2.5 mg (active ingredient).
  • Excipients include anhydrous lactose, microcrystalline cellulose, croscarmellose sodium, sodium lauryl sulfate, magnesium stearate, lactose monohydrate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide, triacetin, and yellow iron oxide.

Dosage and Administration

  1. Take Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet orally, usually twice daily, with or without food, as directed by your doctor.
  2. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
  3. If you are unable to swallow whole tablets, they may be crushed and suspended in water, apple juice, or applesauce for immediate oral administration. Alternatively, crushed tablets can be suspended in water for delivery via a nasogastric tube.
  4. Do not stop taking this medicine or change the dose without consulting your doctor.
  5. The specific dosage and duration of treatment will be determined by your prescribing doctor based on your medical condition.

 

Storage and Disposal

  • Store Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet at or below 30°C, protecting it from direct sunlight and moisture.

Precautions and Safety

  • Eliquis 2.5mg Tablet increases the risk of bleeding; carefully observe for any signs of bleeding.

  • Use with caution if you have liver problems, severe kidney disease, or are undergoing dialysis.
  • Inform your doctor about all other medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking, especially other blood thinners, NSAIDs, or strong CYP3A4 and P-gp inhibitors, as these can increase the risk of bleeding or affect the medicine's efficacy.
  • Temporary discontinuation of Eliquis may be necessary before surgery or certain medical/dental procedures; consult your doctor for guidance.
  • Avoid consuming grapefruit products, including juice, as they can increase the levels of apixaban in your blood.
  • Do not breastfeed during treatment with Eliquis.

 

Side Effects and Risks

  • Common side effects include bleeding (such as nosebleeds, bruising, bleeding gums, or heavier menstrual periods), nausea, vomiting, and anemia.
  • More serious side effects can include severe bleeding, low blood pressure, dizziness, confusion, and allergic skin reactions.
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of serious bleeding, such as blood in your urine or stool, prolonged bleeding that does not stop, or severe headaches.
  • Stopping Eliquis without medical advice significantly increases your risk of thrombotic events, including stroke.
