The Abbott FOB One Step Fecal Occult Blood Test Device is a rapid, chromatographic immunochemical assay designed for the qualitative detection of human hemoglobin in fecal samples. This device aids healthcare professionals in the diagnosis of asymptomatic gastrointestinal conditions, including colon cancer, ulcers, polyps, colitis, diverticulitis, and fissures, which may present with occult blood in the stool.
The test employs a double antibody sandwich assay to selectively detect fecal occult blood at 50 ng/mL or higher, or 6 µg/g feces. Unlike traditional guaiac assays, the accuracy of this immunochemical test is not affected by the patient's diet.
