The Abbott BinaxNOW Streptococcus pneumoniae Antigen Card Rapid Card, supplied in a "Pack of 22 Tests", is an in vitro rapid immunochromatographic (ICT) assay designed for the detection of Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) antigen. This diagnostic tool is intended to aid in the diagnosis of both pneumococcal pneumonia and pneumococcal meningitis, in conjunction with culture and other clinical methods.
Utilizing an immunochromatographic membrane assay, the test card features a membrane coated with rabbit antibody specific for S. pneumoniae antigen and a control antibody. Rabbit anti-S. pneumoniae antibody is adsorbed onto a nitrocellulose membrane as the Sample Line, while control antibody forms a second stripe on the same membrane. Both rabbit anti-S. pneumoniae and anti-species antibodies are conjugated to visualizing particles dried onto an inert fibrous support, facilitating accurate antigen detection.
This rapid card provides accurate and swift identification of S. pneumoniae antigen in patients, supporting healthcare professionals in delivering timely and focused therapy. Results can be interpreted visually or with the aid of the DIGIVAL™ reader, which helps to minimize operator subjectivity and ensures consistency in reading lateral flow test assays.
Key Features :
Function: Detects Streptococcus pneumoniae antigen in urine and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) to aid in the diagnosis of pneumococcal pneumonia and meningitis.
Material / Reagent Type: Utilizes an immunochromatographic membrane assay with specific rabbit antibodies adsorbed onto a nitrocellulose membrane.
Regulatory Compliance: Intended for in vitro diagnostic use and is FDA listed.
