Synflorix PFS 0.5ml Injection is a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine designed for active immunization against diseases caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. It is indicated for infants and children from 6 weeks up to 5 years of age to help protect against invasive disease, pneumonia, and acute otitis media.
This vaccine provides protection against ten different strains of Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. Each 0.5ml dose contains 1 microgram of polysaccharide for serotypes 1, 5, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, and 23F, and 3 micrograms for serotypes 4, 18C, and 19F. These polysaccharides are adsorbed on aluminium phosphate and conjugated to carrier proteins, including protein D (derived from non-typeable Haemophilus influenzae), tetanus toxoid, and diphtheria toxoid.
Synflorix PFS 0.5ml Injection is administered via intramuscular injection. The preferred sites for administration are the anterolateral aspect of the thigh in infants or the deltoid muscle of the upper arm in children. The vaccine requires cold-chain storage and should be kept in a refrigerator at temperatures between 2°C and 8°C, and it must not be frozen.
