Novelon Tablet 21's contains Ethinyl Estradiol (0.03mg) and Desogestrel (0.15mg), primarily used as an oral contraceptive to prevent pregnancy and manage irregular periods.

Benefits

Novelon Tablet provides effective contraception by preventing the release of an egg from the ovaries and hindering its fertilisation by sperm. It also thickens cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to reach the uterus, and alters the uterine lining to prevent implantation. Additionally, it helps regulate irregular or painful menstrual cycles and may contribute to reducing the risk of ovarian cancer.

Dosage and Administration

1. Take one tablet daily at approximately the same time each day for 21 consecutive days.
2. After completing the 21-tablet pack, take a 7-day tablet-free break before starting a new pack.
3. Swallow the tablet whole with water; do not chew or crush.
4. If vomiting occurs within 4 hours of taking a tablet, consider it a missed dose and take another tablet.
5. If a dose is missed by more than 12 hours, take the last missed tablet as soon as remembered and continue with the next at the usual time. Use additional contraceptive precautions (e.g., a barrier method) for the next 7 days.

• Store below 30°C in a cool and dry place.

• Keep out of reach and sight of children.

Precautions and Safety

• Novelon Tablet is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
• Inform your doctor if you smoke and are over 35 years of age, or if you have a history of blood clots, heart disease, liver disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, migraine headaches, or certain cancers (breast, cervical, endometrial, ovarian, liver, or uterine).
• Always inform your doctor about all other medicines you are taking, including prescribed, non-prescribed, herbal remedies, and dietary supplements, as some may interact with Novelon Tablet.
• Regular monitoring of blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels may be necessary during treatment.
• Seek immediate medical attention if you experience unexplained swelling and pain in your limbs, shortness of breath, chest pain, severe headache, or sudden changes in vision, as these could be signs of a blood clot.

Side Effects and Risks

• Common side effects include nausea, headache, breast pain or tenderness, weight gain, altered mood, abdominal pain, and irregular uterine bleeding (spotting or missed periods).
• Most side effects are temporary and subside as your body adjusts to the medication. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist or worsen.
