The Nexipox Vaccine 0.5ml Injection is a freeze-dried vaccine indicated for active immunization against chickenpox (varicella) in individuals 12 months of age and older. This vaccine contains a live attenuated varicella-zoster virus (Oka strain), designed to stimulate the immune system to produce antibodies and provide protection against future infections.
Administered by a healthcare professional, the vaccine is typically given as a subcutaneous injection, specifically at the deltoid insertion area of the lateral aspect of the upper arm. The dosing schedule involves two doses; for children aged 12 months to 12 years, the second dose is given at least 3 months after the first, while for adolescents and adults, the two doses are administered a minimum of 4 weeks apart.
Maintaining the vaccine's integrity requires strict cold-chain storage in a refrigerator at 2°C to 8°C, with protection from light, and it must not be frozen. As a freeze-dried preparation, it necessitates reconstitution with a sterile diluent prior to use, and the reconstituted vaccine should be used immediately, discarding any unused portion after 30 minutes. The Nexipox Vaccine has received regulatory approval from the Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI).
