Duphalac 150ml Syrup contains Lactulose (3.335 Gm/5ml), an osmotic laxative used to treat constipation and manage hepatic encephalopathy.

The Duphalac 150ml Syrup contains:

• Lactulose IP 3.335 Gm/5ml (active ingredient).
• May contain small amounts of related sugars (e.g., lactose, galactose, epilactose, fructose) from the synthesis process.

Dosage and Administration

1. Always take Duphalac 150ml Syrup exactly as directed by your doctor.
2. The syrup can be taken diluted or undiluted, with or without food.
3. Swallow the medicine quickly without holding it in your mouth.
4. If taking a single daily dose, aim to take it at the same time each day for consistency.
5. Use a medical measuring cup, spoon, or dropper to ensure an accurate dose.
6. For constipation, a typical adult starting dose ranges from 15 to 45 mL daily, which may be adjusted to a maintenance dose of 15 to 30 mL daily based on response.
7. For hepatic encephalopathy, starting doses are typically higher, often 30 to 45 mL, 3 to 4 times daily, adjusted to achieve 2 to 3 soft stools per day.
8. For children, dosage should be age-specific and administered under medical supervision.
9. Ensure adequate fluid intake of 1.5 to 2 liters (6-8 glasses) per day during treatment.
10. The therapeutic effect for constipation usually appears after 2 to 3 days of treatment.

Storage and Disposal

• Store at temperatures not exceeding 25°C.
• Keep the syrup away from direct light and moisture.
• Do not freeze the solution.
• Keep out of reach of children.

Precautions and Safety

• Consult a doctor if the desired therapeutic effect is not observed after several days of treatment, if you experience painful abdominal symptoms of unknown origin, or if side effects become serious.
• Inform your doctor if you have diabetes, lactose intolerance, galactosemia, gastrointestinal obstruction, digestive perforation, or a risk of digestive perforation.

Side Effects and Risks

• Common side effects include wind, bloating, mild tummy cramps, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea, especially if the dose is too high.
• Seek prompt medical advice if you experience severe or persistent diarrhoea, signs of dehydration (such as very dark urine, dizziness, or reduced urination), symptoms of electrolyte imbalance (like muscle cramps, unusual weakness, or irregular heartbeat), severe allergic reactions, persistent changes in bowel habits, unexplained weight loss, or blood in your stool.
