Creon 10000 Capsule contains pancreatin, a mixture of digestive enzymes, which is used to treat pancreatic exocrine insufficiency.

Uses and Indications

The Creon 10000 Capsule contains:

• Pancreatin 150 mg (pancreas powder).
• Equivalent to: Lipase 10,000 Ph. Eur. units, Amylase 8,000 Ph. Eur. units, Protease 600 Ph. Eur. units.
• Pancreatin is derived from porcine pancreatic tissue.

Dosage and Administration

1. Take Creon 10000 Capsule during or immediately after each meal or snack.
2. Swallow the capsule whole with a sufficient amount of liquid.
3. Do not crush or chew the capsule or its contents, as this can cause irritation in the mouth and reduce enzyme effectiveness.
4. If swallowing whole is difficult, carefully open the capsule and sprinkle the minimicrospheres onto a small amount of soft acidic food (e.g., applesauce, plain Greek yogurt, bananas) or mix with an acidic liquid (e.g., apple, orange, or pineapple juice). Consume the mixture immediately without chewing the pellets.
5. The dosage is individualized by your doctor based on your condition, weight, diet, and the severity of maldigestion.
6. Ensure adequate fluid intake daily while taking this medicine.

Storage and Disposal

• Store Creon 10000 Capsule below 25°C (77°F). Do not store above 30°C.
• Keep the medicine in its original container, tightly closed, and protected from moisture.
• Once opened, use the contents within six months.
• Keep out of the reach of children.
• Do not dispose of medicines via wastewater or household waste; consult your pharmacist for proper disposal methods.

Precautions and Safety

• Do not crush or chew the capsules or their contents, as this can lead to irritation of the oral mucosa.
• Consult your doctor before taking this medicine if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
• Exercise caution if you have a history of gout, kidney disease, or high blood uric acid levels, as pancreatin can increase uric acid levels.
• High doses of pancreatin, particularly in patients with cystic fibrosis, have been associated with a rare bowel condition called fibrosing colonopathy (narrowing of the large intestine). Report any unusual or severe abdominal symptoms to your doctor immediately.
• Do not inhale the powder from the capsule or allow it to touch your skin, as it may cause irritation.

Side Effects and Risks

• Common side effects include abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, gas, and abnormal bowel movements.
• Uncommon or rare side effects may include skin rash, severe itching (pruritus), hives (urticaria), and other allergic reactions such as trouble breathing or swollen lips.
• Very high doses of pancreatin have been linked to increased uric acid levels in the blood (hyperuricaemia) and urine (hyperuricosuria).
• Do not take Creon 10000 Capsule if you are allergic to pig pancreatin or any of its ingredients.
