Contec Syringe Pump (SP950)

The SP950 supports variable infusion rates depending on syringe size: 0.1–200 ml/h for 10 ml syringes, 0.1–400 ml/h for 20 ml syringes, 0.1–600 ml/h for 30 ml syringes, and 0.1–1200 ml/h for 50 ml syringes in 0.1 ml/h steps. Bolus rates are proportionally higher, enabling rapid medication delivery when clinically required. Accuracy is maintained at ±3% across all settings.

The pump includes multiple safety alarms: occlusion detection, syringe fall-off, low battery, motor failure, communication abnormalities, pressure failure, and near-empty/empty syringe alerts. Alarm brightness, volume, and pressure range thresholds (low, middle, high) are user-adjustable to suit different clinical environments. The pump also signals inactivity when powered on without operation.

KVO (Keep Vein Open) mode automatically activates after infusion completion to maintain catheter patency and prevent blockage. The KVO rate is adjustable from 0.1–5 ml/h, allowing clinicians to tailor the maintenance flow to patient needs and clinical protocols.

The SP950 features a rechargeable 7.4 V lithium battery (3500 mAh). It switches over automatically when AC power is lost, charges automatically, and runs the pump for at least 2 hours at 5 ml/h or 500 ml/h on a full charge.

The Contec SP950 supports 10, 20, 30, and 50 ml disposable syringes. The pump detects the syringe size and triggers an alarm if it does not match the selected setting. Accuracy is maintained by selecting the correct syringe type in the settings.

The SP950 is classified as Class II medical equipment, internally powered, Type BF. System parameters and syringe type settings are password-protected to prevent unauthorized changes, supporting consistent and safe operation across clinical settings.

Occlusion is a blockage in the line that stops the drug from reaching the patient, causing pressure to build up. Contec SP950 measures line pressure and triggers an alarm when it exceeds the selected threshold: low (40 ± 16 kPa), middle (70 ± 30 kPa), high (100 ± 35 kPa)

Purge (quick feed) pushes fluid quickly to prime the line or deliver a short, rapid volume of fluid. On the Contec SP950, the quick-feed rate depends on syringe size: 100, 200, 300, and 500 ml/h for 10, 20, 30, and 50 ml syringes, respectively.

Load and clamp the prefilled syringe in the holder, then confirm the detected syringe size. Set the infusion rate and total volume, select the occlusion level, and prime the line according to the device instructions. Connect to the patient and press start. Monitor the infusion and alarms throughout delivery. Once the set volume is delivered, the pump switches to Keep Vein Open (KVO) mode.

A syringe pump like the Contec SP950 is suitable for delivering small, precise fluid volumes at low infusion rates. Typical applications may include sedation, inotropes, insulin, and neonatal infusions, depending on the prescribed therapy and device compatibility.
