Azikem 500mg Tablet contains Azithromycin 500mg, an antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections.

Uses and Indications

• Respiratory tract infections, including bronchitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, pharyngitis, and tonsillitis.
• Ear infections (otitis media).
• Skin and soft tissue infections.
• Sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, urethritis, cervicitis, and chancroid.
• Typhoid fever (enteric fever).

The Azikem 500mg Tablet contains:

• Azithromycin IP 500 mg (active ingredient).

Dosage and Administration

1. Take this medicine orally as directed by your doctor, usually once daily.
2. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food, but taking it with food may help reduce stomach upset.
3. Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed, even if symptoms improve, to prevent the infection from returning and to reduce antibiotic resistance.
4. Do not skip any doses. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose at the regular time. Do not double the dose.

Storage and Disposal

• Store tablets at room temperature, between 15°C and 30°C (59°F to 86°F).
• Keep the medicine in its original container, protected from light and moisture.
• Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Precautions and Safety

• Inform your doctor about any allergies to azithromycin, erythromycin, or other macrolide antibiotics.
• Discuss your medical history with your doctor, especially if you have liver disease, kidney disease, heart problems (including QT prolongation or irregular heartbeat), or myasthenia gravis.
• Avoid taking antacids containing aluminum or magnesium at the same time; take Azikem 500mg Tablet at least one hour before or two hours after these antacids.
• Avoid alcohol consumption during treatment as it may worsen side effects like stomach upset, dizziness, and drowsiness.
• This medicine treats bacterial infections and is not effective against viral infections like the common cold or flu.
• Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
• If you experience dizziness or convulsions, avoid driving or operating machinery.

Side Effects and Risks

• Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, headache, dizziness, fatigue, loss of appetite, and changes in taste. These are usually mild and temporary.
• Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe or persistent diarrhea (especially if watery or bloody), severe stomach pain, difficulty breathing, rash, hives, swelling of the face/throat/tongue, fast/irregular heartbeat, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or unusual muscle weakness.
