Otoscope

An otoscope is a handheld device with a light and magnifying lens, designed to help healthcare providers examine the inside of the ear. It features a funnel-shaped viewing piece with a pointed end, called a speculum, which is inserted into the ear canal during an examination.

A pneumatic otoscope is a specialized version that includes a rubber bulb. When squeezed, the bulb releases a puff of air into the ear canal, allowing the provider to observe eardrum movement.

Recently, some providers have adopted video otoscopes, which transmit images from inside the ear to a larger screen for enhanced visibility.
