What are Patient Monitor Devices used for?

The medical monitor equipment finds diverse applications in various clinical settings, catering to specific nursing wards and departments. Some widely used automatic monitoring systems include those for intraoperative and postoperative care, psychiatric wards, trauma nursing, coronary heart disease, delivery rooms, neonatal and premature infant care, renal dialysis, hyperbaric oxygen chambers, and intensive care units. These dedicated monitoring systems are strategically equipped based on the clinical needs of each department or ward, enhancing patient care and safety.

Different types of Patient Monitors:

Vital Signs Monitors- These monitors are designed to measure fundamental patient vitals, including Oxygen Saturation Levels, Blood Pressure, Temperature, and Pulse Rate. They are primarily utilized in low-acuity environments, such as general medical and surgical wards.

Multi-Parameter Patient Monitors- These monitors provide continuous monitoring of basic vitals and have the capacity to track high-acuity parameters, including ETCO2, Cardiac Output, Anaesthetic Agents, and Invasive Blood Pressure. These monitors are commonly utilized in high-acuity settings such as Intensive Care Units (ICUs) and Emergency Rooms.

Fetal Monitors- These are frequently employed to continuously monitor the fetal heart rate during late pregnancy and labor. These monitors, including Fetal NSTs, can measure heart rate and rhythm, displaying the data on a screen and providing printed records. Fetal monitoring systems are commonly utilized in both antepartum and intrapartum care.

Central Monitoring Patient Monitoring System- These monitors collect and displays patient data from multiple monitoring devices in real-time at a central station. It enhances patient safety and enables efficient monitoring, commonly used in ICUs and high-dependency units.
