Septodont R4 Root Canal Disinfectant is an advanced solution specifically formulated for the cleaning and disinfection of root canals during endodontic procedures. This irrigant is indicated for root-canal irrigation when endodontic re-treatment is required or when root-canal treatment necessitates multiple sessions due to infected canals.

The formulation of Septodont R4 contains chlorhexidine digluconate (20% solution) and denatured ethyl alcohol as active ingredients, alongside excipients such as acetic acid and purified water. The presence of chlorhexidine digluconate provides a specific action against anaerobic bacterial strains commonly found in the root-canal flora and endo-periodontal lesions, contributing to effective canal disinfection. Its broad antimicrobial spectrum ensures comprehensive bacterial eradication within the root canal system.

1. Initial Canal Preparation

  Perform chemical and mechanical preparation of the root canal in accordance with standard endodontic protocols.

  Irrigate the canal with sterile water or an EDTA solution to remove debris, smear layer, and residual materials.

  
  

2. Dry the Canal

• 
  

  Use sterile paper points to dry the canal thoroughly, ensuring the absence of moisture before applying R4 solution.

  
  

3. Final Irrigation with R4 Solution

• 
  

  Using a disposable pipette, draw up the R4 solution.

  
  

  
  

  Important: Avoid allowing the solution to extrude beyond the apical foramen.

  Gently introduce the R4 solution into the canal.
  
  Do not flush with force or apply pressure.

  
  


• 
  

  Do not irrigate the canal after placing the R4 solution.

  
  

4. Remove Excess Solution

  Carefully remove any excess R4 solution from the pulp chamber to prevent interference with subsequent sealing steps.

  
  

5. Temporary Sealing (If Required)
