Brand Septodont

Septodont BioRoot RCS Root Canal Sealant (Powder & Liquid) is a bioactive mineral root canal sealer designed for permanent obturation of root canals. Powered by Septodont’s patented Active Biosilicate Technology, this system is formulated for use in a wide range of cases, including vital or necrotic pulp, as well as primary treatments or retreatments.

The sealer features a high mineral purity and monomer-free composition, ensuring exceptional biocompatibility and minimizing the risk of adverse reactions. It promotes hydroxyapatite formation at the tooth–sealer interface, enhancing dentinal mineralization and contributing to long-term structural stability. The powder component consists of tricalcium silicate, zirconium oxide, and povidone, while the liquid contains calcium chloride and polycarboxylate, creating a resin-free, monomer-free, and eugenol-free formulation.

BioRoot RCS is suitable for permanent root canal filling in mature permanent teeth and is compatible with both the single cone technique and cold lateral condensation. Its hydraulic setting mechanism allows for slight expansion during hydration and crystallization, contributing to dimensional stability and a void-free obturation. The material also exhibits antimicrobial properties, helping to combat bacterial growth and reduce the risk of reinfection.

Key Features :

Intended for permanent root canal filling in combination with gutta-percha points for vital or necrotic pulp cases and retreatment procedures.
Formulated with bioactive minerals, including tricalcium silicate, zirconium oxide, and povidone in the powder, and calcium chloride and polycarboxylate in the liquid.
Promotes hydroxyapatite formation at the tooth–sealer interface, enhancing dentinal mineralization and long-term structural stability.
Exhibits excellent biocompatibility due to its high mineral purity and monomer-free composition.
Possesses antimicrobial properties to help prevent bacterial growth and reinfection.
Designed for use with cold obturation techniques, such as single cone and cold lateral condensation.
MR-safe, ensuring no interference in magnetic resonance imaging environments.
Holds CE marking (2797), UKCA marking, and FDA clearance (K130601).

MIXING INSTRUCTIONS (Prepare immediately before use)

  1. Measure the Powder

    • Using the supplied spoon, place one level spoonful of powder on the mixing pad.

  2. Measure the Liquid

    • Detach a single-dose mixing solution container.

    • Twist the cap open and dispense 5 drops onto the mixing pad.

  3. Mix to a Smooth Paste

    • Gradually incorporate the powder into the liquid.

    • Mix for about 60 seconds until a smooth, creamy consistency is achieved.

    • Once a uniform paste is obtained, do not add any remaining powder.

  4. Clean Instruments Immediately

    • Rinse and clean all instruments to remove any residual material before it hardens.

Working Time: Minimum 10 minutes

Setting Time: Maximum 4 hours

PLACEMENT INTO THE ROOT CANAL

  1. Canal Preparation

    • Perform standard cleaning and shaping of the root canal.

  2. Master Cone Selection

    • Select a standardized gutta-percha master cone that fits snugly at the working length.

  3. Drying the Canal

    • Use paper points to thoroughly dry the canal.

  4. Sealer Application

    • Prepare BioRoot™ RCS as per mixing instructions.

    • Apply the sealer to the canal walls using:

      • A paper point, or

      • The gutta-percha point.

  5. Obturation

    • Single-Cone Technique: Insert the master cone coated with BioRoot™ RCS.

    • Lateral Condensation Technique: Insert several coated gutta-percha points.

  6. Verification

    • Take a radiograph to confirm quality of the obturation.

  7. Final Steps

    • Remove protruding gutta-percha with a hot instrument.

    • Place a temporary restoration.

    • For post-placement, wait until BioRoot™ RCS is fully set (1 week to 1 month).

  8. Apical Seal Confirmation

    • A follow-up radiograph should confirm 3–5 mm of apical root filling remains intact.

REMOVAL OF BioRoot™ RCS

  • Since BioRoot™ RCS is used with gutta-percha, it can be removed using conventional endodontic retreatment techniques.
