The Recombigen Uric Acid (Uricase-POD) assay is a single-reagent system designed for the quantitative determination of uric acid in serum, plasma, or urine samples. The method uses the uricase enzyme to specifically catalyze the oxidation of uric acid to allantoin, with the formation of hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) as a byproduct. The hydrogen peroxide is then detected through a peroxidase-catalyzed reaction that produces a color change. The intensity of the color formed is proportional to the concentration of uric acid in the sample, and it is measured spectrophotometrically.
