The Recombigen ASO (Anti-Streptolysin O) test uses the Latex Slide Agglutination method to qualitatively detect Anti-Streptolysin O antibodies in serum samples. ASO antibodies are produced in response to infection by Streptococcus pyogenes, the bacteria responsible for conditions like rheumatic fever and glomerulonephritis. In this test, latex beads coated with streptolysin O react with ASO antibodies in the serum, leading to visible agglutination (clumping). The presence of this agglutination indicates a positive result, suggesting prior exposure to Streptococcus pyogenes.
