Pathozyme SGPT-L is a robust diagnostic reagent designed for the quantitative determination of serum glutamate pyruvate transaminase (SGPT/ALT) activity in human serum and plasma. This product is essential for evaluating liver health and diagnosing liver conditions, providing precise measurements of ALT enzyme levels which are crucial in the detection and management of liver diseases, including hepatitis, cirrhosis, and fatty liver disease.

The reagent leverages a biochemical enzymatic reaction to deliver accurate and reliable results, ensuring high specificity and sensitivity in clinical settings. The principle involves L-alanine and alpha-ketoglutarate reacting in the presence of GPT to yield pyruvate and L-glutamate, with pyruvate then reduced by lactate dehydrogenase to lactate, oxidizing NADH to NAD. The reaction is monitored by measuring the decrease in absorbance of NADH at 340 nm, with the rate of reduction proportional to SGPT activity in the sample.
