Dosage and Administration

  1. Orther 40mg Injection 1ml is administered as an intramuscular injection by a healthcare professional.

  3. The dosage is determined by the prescribing doctor, based on the patient's age, weight, and the severity of the infection.

Precautions and Safety

  • Inform your doctor about all existing medical conditions, especially heart problems or HIV.
  • Use with caution in patients with cardiovascular disease, hepatic impairment, or renal insufficiency.
  • Do not take this medicine if you are in the first 3 months of pregnancy.
  • Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
  • Avoid concomitant use with other antimalarial drugs, particularly those known to prolong the QT interval (e.g., amiodarone, ondansetron, hydroxyzine, voriconazole, erythromycin, terfenadine, procainamide, quinidine, disopyramide, bretylium, bepridil, sotalol, astemizole, probucol, tricyclic antidepressants, phenothiazines), as this may increase the risk of adverse effects or alter pharmacokinetics.
  • Avoid consuming grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking this medicine, as it may increase the effects of artemether.
  • Regular blood tests may be required during treatment to monitor for malarial parasites.
  • Use caution while driving or operating machinery as this medicine may cause dizziness and sleepiness.

 

Side Effects and Risks

  • Common side effects include headache, dizziness, muscle pain, joint pain, injection site reactions (pain, swelling, redness), weakness, vomiting, decreased appetite, cough, and fever.
  • Rare but serious side effects include abnormal or fast heartbeat, fainting, rash, hives, difficulty breathing or swallowing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, hoarseness, or trouble speaking. Seek immediate medical attention if any of these occur.
  • Transient low fever and reticulocytopenia may occur in individual cases.
  • Slight elevations of SGOT and SGPT may occur in individual cases.
  • Arrhythmia, such as ventricular tachycardia, may occur in rare cases.
