Brand J. MORITA
Morita Vitapex Calcium Hydroxide Pastes offer a premixed solution for various endodontic procedures, serving as a temporary or permanent root canal filling material following pulpectomy or root canal treatment (RCT). This paste is also indicated for the treatment of infected root canals, vital pulpotomies in deciduous teeth, apexification, and addressing root resorption. Its formulation allows for direct injection and smooth flow into intricate, curved, and accessory canals, facilitating thorough filling without air bubbles. A key advantage is its non-setting nature, which permits easy insertion and removal for potential retreatment.
The material composition of Vitapex includes 30% calcium hydroxide, 40.4% iodoform, and 22.4% silicone oil. Calcium hydroxide actively stimulates "blast" cells, promoting apexogenesis, and its high pH effectively neutralizes endotoxins produced by anaerobic bacteria. Iodoform contributes bacteriostatic properties and enhances radiopacity, aiding in radiographic diagnosis. The silicone oil component acts as a lubricant, ensuring comprehensive coating of canal walls and maintaining the paste's non-setting characteristic. Vitapex is designed to resorb from apical tissues within approximately one week to two months and is considered harmless to permanent tooth germs. Its complete resorbability ensures that overfilling does not lead to complications, as it is non-toxic to periapical tissues.
Morita Vitapex Calcium Hydroxide Pastes are FDA registered, having received 510(k) clearance under number K973667 on November 6, 1997.
