Menactra 0.5ml Injection is a Meningococcal (Groups A, C, Y and W-135) Polysaccharide Diphtheria Toxoid Conjugate Vaccine, supplied as a sterile, clear to slightly turbid liquid solution for intramuscular injection. Each 0.5ml dose contains 4 µg of each meningococcal A, C, Y, and W-135 polysaccharides, conjugated to a total of approximately 48 µg of Diphtheria Toxoid protein carrier.


This vaccine is indicated for active immunization to prevent invasive meningococcal disease caused by Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135. It is approved for use in individuals 9 months through 55 years of age. Menactra does not prevent disease caused by N. meningitidis serogroup B.

Antigen Composition: Contains Neisseria meningitidis serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135 capsular polysaccharide antigens individually conjugated to diphtheria toxoid protein.
Approved Indications and Target Population: Indicated for active immunization against invasive meningococcal disease caused by serogroups A, C, Y, and W-135 in individuals 9 months through 55 years of age.
Cold-chain Storage Temperature: Must be stored at 2° to 8°C (35° to 46°F) and should not be frozen.
Route of Administration: Administered as a 0.5ml dose via intramuscular injection, preferably in the deltoid region. It should not be administered intravenously, subcutaneously, or intradermally.
Schedule / Dosing Intervals: For children 9 through 23 months of age, a 2-dose series three months apart is recommended; individuals 2 through 55 years of age receive a single dose. A single booster dose may be given to individuals 15 through 55 years of age at continued risk for meningococcal disease, if at least 4 to 6 years have elapsed since the prior dose.
Regulatory Approval: Menactra is FDA-approved and has been prequalified by the WHO since 2014.
