Dosage and Administration

  1. The typical adult dosage for Levofloxacin 500mg Tablet is once daily, but the exact dose and duration depend on the type and severity of the infection, as determined by a doctor.
  2. Swallow the tablet whole with a sufficient amount of water. It can be taken with or without food.
  3. Continue the full prescribed course of treatment, even if symptoms improve, to prevent the development of drug-resistant bacteria.

 

Storage and Disposal

  • Store the tablets below 25°C, protected from direct sunlight and moisture.
  • Keep this medicine out of the sight and reach of children.

Precautions and Safety

  • Levofloxacin can cause serious adverse reactions, including tendinitis, tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system effects. Discontinue use immediately if these occur.
  • Avoid taking this medicine if you have a known allergy to levofloxacin or other fluoroquinolone antibiotics.
  • Exercise caution in elderly patients, those receiving corticosteroids, or individuals with a history of organ transplant, as they may have an increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture.
  • This medicine may cause dizziness or lightheadedness; do not drive or operate machinery until you know how it affects you.
  • Do not take iron salts, antacids containing magnesium or aluminum, or sucralfate within two hours before or after taking Levodiet 500mg Tablet, as they can reduce its absorption.
  • Monitor for signs of liver damage (e.g., nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, yellowing of skin/eyes) or low blood sugar, especially in diabetic patients.
  • This antibiotic is not effective against viral infections like the common cold or flu.

 

Side Effects and Risks

  • Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, difficulty sleeping (insomnia), and increased liver enzymes.
  • Serious side effects can include tendon problems (pain, swelling, rupture), nerve damage (numbness, tingling, burning pain in limbs), severe mood or behavior changes, low blood sugar, convulsions, psychosis, increased pressure inside the head, and severe diarrhea (Clostridioides difficile-associated diarrhea).
  • Rare but serious allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) may occur. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience rash, itching, hives, swelling of the face/throat, or difficulty breathing.
