Its formulation includes 5% glutaraldehyde and 35% HEMA (hydroxy-ethyl methacrylate) in an aqueous base, which acts to occlude exposed dentinal tubules. This mechanism helps to reduce or eliminate pain in exposed cervical areas and prevent sensitivity following tooth preparation for direct or indirect restorations.

The desensitizer functions by causing the precipitation of plasma proteins within the dentinal tubules, forming a physiological seal that inhibits the flow of fluid responsible for sensitivity. This process also provides a microbial barrier. Gluma Desensitizer is a one-step application that does not require prior mixing, agitation, or light curing, streamlining clinical procedures.

Universally compatible, this desensitizer can be integrated with all common dental adhesives and restorative materials. It is applied for a brief period of 30 to 60 seconds, followed by air-drying and rinsing with water.
