Overview of Gardasil Vaccine (HPV Vaccine in India)

Gardasil Vaccine, a quadrivalent human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, provides protection against four major HPV types – 6, 11, 16, and 18 – which are responsible for most cases of cervical cancers, genital warts, and other HPV-related cancers such as vulvar, vaginal, and anal cancers. It is a recombinant vaccine containing virus-like particles (VLPs) of HPV types and is recommended for both males and females, typically between the ages of 9 and 26 years, to ensure maximum protection before sexual exposure. Gardasil is usually given in a 2-dose or 3-dose schedule depending on the recipient’s age. Widely recognized and approved globally, including in India, the vaccine plays a crucial role in preventive healthcare by significantly reducing the risk of HPV-related cancers and precancerous lesions, thereby supporting long-term health protection.
