Dosage and Administration

Flufox 10ml Injection is administered by a healthcare professional, typically via intramuscular (IM) or intravenous (IV) injection or infusion. The exact dosage and duration of treatment will be determined by your doctor based on the type and severity of the infection, your age, weight, and kidney function. Do not self-administer this medicine.

 

Storage and Disposal

  • Store the unopened vial below 25°C, protected from light and moisture.
  • Reconstituted solutions should be used immediately. If not used immediately, they may be stored for up to 24 hours at 2-8°C (under refrigeration) to reduce microbiological hazards.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Discard any unused portion after reconstitution, as the vials are not suitable for multi-dose use.

Precautions and Safety

  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of hypersensitivity to flucloxacillin, penicillins, cephalosporins, or other beta-lactam antibiotics.
  • Do not use this medicine if you have a history of flucloxacillin-associated jaundice or hepatic dysfunction.
  • Exercise caution in patients with severe renal impairment; dosage adjustments may be necessary.
  • Monitor hepatic and renal function during prolonged or high-dose therapy.
  • This product contains sodium, which should be considered for patients on sodium-restricted diets.
  • Avoid concomitant use with methotrexate due to increased risk of toxicity.
  • Flucloxacillin may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives.
  • Do not mix with blood products or other proteinaceous fluids.

 

Side Effects and Risks

  • Common side effects include gastrointestinal disturbances such as diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, bloating, and indigestion.
  • Skin reactions like rash, urticaria, and pruritus may occur.
  • Pain and inflammation at the injection site are possible.
  • Serious but rare side effects include severe hypersensitivity reactions (anaphylaxis, severe skin rashes like Stevens-Johnson syndrome), liver problems (hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice), and kidney inflammation (interstitial nephritis).
  • Seek immediate medical attention if you experience severe allergic reactions, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, pale stools, or severe diarrhoea with blood or mucus.
