Esoprol DSR Capsule 10's

Esoprol DSR Capsule contains Esomeprazole (20 mg as enteric-coated pellets) and Domperidone (30 mg as sustained-release pellets), a combination medicine used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.

Uses and Indications

• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).
• Acid reflux and heartburn.
• Functional dyspepsia.
• Gastritis.
• Peptic ulcer disease (as adjunct therapy).
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
• Nausea associated with gastric motility disorders.
• Upper abdominal pain, gas, heavy bloating, belching, and swallowing problems.

The Esoprol DSR Capsule contains:

• Esomeprazole Magnesium Trihydrate I.P. equivalent to Esomeprazole 20 mg (as enteric-coated pellets).
• Domperidone I.P. 30 mg (as sustained-release pellets).
• Excipients and approved colours used in empty capsule shells.

Dosage and Administration

1. Take one capsule once daily.
2. It should be taken at least 1 hour before meals, preferably before the first meal of the day, or on an empty stomach.
3. Swallow the capsule whole with liquid; do not crush, chew, or open it.
4. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed dose.
5. The dosage depends on the patient's condition, age, and medical history, and should be strictly as prescribed by a healthcare professional.

Storage and Disposal

• Store below 30°C in a clean and dry place.
• Protect from direct sunlight, moisture, and heat.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Keep the medicine in the container or pack it came in, tightly closed.
• Dispose of unused medicine safely.

Precautions and Safety

• Use this medicine only under the prescription and guidance of a qualified doctor or pharmacist.
• Inform your doctor about any pre-existing conditions, allergies, or other medications you are taking.
• Avoid alcohol consumption during the course of treatment as it can increase stomach acid production.
• Long-term use of proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) like esomeprazole may be associated with a risk of decreased calcium and magnesium absorption, potentially leading to weak bones.
• Pregnant and breastfeeding women should avoid this medication unless specifically advised by a doctor, as evidence has demonstrated fetal abnormalities or harmful infant effects.
• Not recommended for use in patients with bleeding from the gut, or blockage or tears in the gut.
• Caution is advised in patients with liver, kidney, or heart problems.
• Domperidone has been associated with prolongation of the QT interval on the electrocardiogram, especially in patients older than 60 years, taking daily doses greater than 30 mg, or concurrently taking QT-prolonging drugs or CYP3A4 inhibitors.

Side Effects and Risks

• Common side effects include dry mouth, headache, dizziness, abdominal cramps/pain, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, and somnolence.
• Other reported side effects include rash, pruritus, breast pain and tenderness, disrupted menstrual cycle, and loss of libido.
• Serious manifestations of hypomagnesaemia such as fatigue, tetany, delirium, convulsions, dizziness and ventricular arrhythmia can occur with long-term PPI use.
• Rare skin rash or allergic reaction may occur; stop and consult a doctor if experienced.
• If any serious side effects occur, report them to the practitioner immediately.
