Dosage and Administration

  1. Administered by continuous intravenous infusion.
  2. Dosage is individualised by the prescribing doctor, typically starting at 0.5 to 1.0 mcg/kg/min and adjusted based on patient response.
  3. Must be diluted before administration with suitable intravenous solutions.

Precautions and Safety

  • Close monitoring of ECG, blood pressure, and heart rate is essential during administration.
  • Hypovolemia should be corrected with suitable volume expanders before starting Dobutamine infusion.
  • Use with caution in patients with atrial fibrillation (pre-treat with digitalis if rapid ventricular response) or severe aortic stenosis.
  • Contains sodium metabisulfite, which may cause allergic-type reactions, including anaphylactic symptoms and asthmatic episodes, in certain susceptible individuals.
