Buscotop Injection 1ml contains Hyoscine Butyl Bromide 20mg/Ml, an antispasmodic medication used to relieve painful spasms in various internal organs.

Uses and Indications

  • Acute spasm, such as renal or biliary colic.
  • Spasms of the gastrointestinal tract, including those associated with irritable bowel syndrome, stomach, and intestinal discomfort.
  • Spasms of the urogenital tract, such as those caused by bladder disorders or kidney stones.
  • As an aid in diagnostic procedures like gastroduodenal endoscopy, pyelography, and various radiological examinations where muscle spasm may interfere.

The Buscotop Injection 1ml contains:

  • Hyoscine Butyl Bromide 20 mg (active ingredient).
  • Excipients: sodium chloride, hydrochloric acid (for pH adjustment), sodium hydroxide (for pH adjustment), water for injections.

Dosage and Administration

Adults typically receive one ampoule (20 mg) intravenously or intramuscularly. This dose may be repeated after 30 minutes if symptoms persist. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 100 mg (5 ampoules). Intravenous injections must be administered slowly. This medicine is not recommended for children; consult a doctor for pediatric use.

 

Storage and Disposal

  • Store below 30°C, protected from light.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • This product is for single use only; discard any unused portion immediately after opening.

Precautions and Safety

  • Consult a doctor immediately if severe, unexplained abdominal pain persists or worsens, or if accompanied by fever, nausea, vomiting, changes in bowel movements, abdominal tenderness, low blood pressure, fainting, or blood in stool.
  • This injection is contraindicated in patients with narrow-angle glaucoma, prostate hypertrophy with urinary retention, mechanical stenosis in the gastrointestinal tract, paralytic or obstructive ileus, megacolon, tachycardia, myasthenia gravis, or hypersensitivity to its components.
  • Exercise caution in patients with underlying cardiac conditions.
  • Intramuscular injection is not recommended for patients on anticoagulant therapy due to the risk of intramuscular hematoma; intravenous or subcutaneous routes may be used instead.
  • Avoid driving or operating machinery if experiencing blurred vision or dizziness after administration.

 

Side Effects and Risks

  • Common side effects include dry mouth, temporary blurred vision, dizziness, increased heart rate (tachycardia), constipation, feeling hot, decreased sweating, and difficulty passing urine.
  • Less common but serious side effects can include skin reactions (e.g., rash, hives), allergic reactions (e.g., anaphylaxis, anaphylactic shock), decreased blood pressure (hypotension), and increased intraocular pressure.
