Mercury Free Measurement

Relax: Sit quietly for 5 mins, feet flat, back supported, arm rested at heart level.
Position Cuff: Place cuff on bare upper arm, 1 inch above elbow crease; snug but allows underneath.
Position Stethoscope: Place stethoscope diaphragm lightly over the brachial artery (inner elbow). Earpieces face forward.
Measurement Steps
Estimate Systolic (Optional but Recommended): Feel radial pulse at wrist, inflate cuff until pulse disappears, note pressure – this is your estimated systolic pressure.
Inflate: Inflate cuff rapidly to about 30 mmHg above your estimated systolic pressure (or typical reading).
Deflate Slowly: Turn the valve knob counter-clockwise to release air slowly (2-3 mmHg per second).
Listen for Systolic: Note the gauge reading when you first hear clear tapping sounds (Korotkoff sounds) – this is your Systolic Pressure (top number).
Listen for Diastolic: Continue deflating; note the reading when the sounds disappear completely – this is your Diastolic Pressure (bottom number).
Record: Write as Systolic/Diastolic (e.g., 120/80). Fully deflate cuff afterward
