  1. Check the packagingfor any damage or tear. Discard if sterilized packaging is compromised.
  2. Inspect the needle gauge size against the prescribed size requirement & peel open toinspect the needle assembly.
  3. Ensure the tubing clamp is closed and the end cap is tight. Prime the tubing with saline solution.
  4. Palpate the fistula with the palm to check patency. Onceconfirmed, proceed with skin cleansing.
  5. Apply a tourniquet to the access arm to engorge the vessel.
  6. Uncap needle by twisting and pulling straight out.
  7. Position the needle tip bevel up and point the needle in an antegrade direction.
  8. Press down and stretch the skin with your non-dominant thumb and index finger to anchor the vessel and prevent it from rolling.
  9. Penetrate the skin at a 25 to 30-degree angle & checkfor an immediate blood flashback.
  10. Once flashback is achieved, lower the needle angle almost flat.
  11. Insert the needle in thecenter of the vessel lumen.
  12. Loosen the tubing cap to fill it with blood, lock the connections, and close the clamp.
  13. Once treatment is complete, unclamp the tubing and carefully disconnect the bloodlines.
  • Never use a needle that appears bent, blunt, or defective.
  • Never use if packaging isn't sealed, as it poses a severe risk of bloodstream infections.
  • Do not push the insert needle blindly into the tissue, as this can cause a hematoma.
  • Never reposition or pull back, as re-cannulating with the same needle increases the risk of coring tissue.
