Pan 40mg Injection

Pan 40mg Injection contains Pantoprazole 40mg, a proton pump inhibitor used to reduce stomach acid and treat various acid-related conditions of the stomach and intestine.

Benefits

This medicine effectively relieves symptoms such as heartburn and acid reflux, promoting the healing of stomach and duodenal ulcers. It also helps manage conditions like gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Pan 40mg Injection can also prevent stress ulcers in seriously ill patients and aspiration-related complications before anesthetic medication.

Uses and Indications

• Acidity and heartburn.
• Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and erosive esophagitis.
• Peptic ulcer disease (stomach and duodenal ulcers).
• Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and other pathological hypersecretory conditions.
• Prevention of stress ulcers in seriously ill patients.
• Prevention of aspiration-related complications before anesthetic medication.
• Prevention of stomach damage caused by long-term use of NSAIDs.

The Pan 40mg Injection contains:

• Pantoprazole 40mg (as sodium sesquihydrate) (active ingredient).
• Sodium hydroxide (for pH adjustment).
• Edetate disodium 1 mg (may be present in some formulations).

Dosage and Administration

1. Pan 40mg Injection is administered intravenously by a healthcare professional.
2. The recommended adult dosage for GERD with erosive esophagitis is typically 40 mg once daily, given as an intravenous injection over at least 2 minutes or as an intravenous infusion over 15 minutes, for up to 10 days.
3. For pathological hypersecretory conditions like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, the initial adult dosage may be 80 mg every 12 hours, administered by intravenous infusion over 15 minutes, with doses adjusted based on individual patient needs.
4. Reconstitute each 40 mg vial with 10 mL of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection.
5. For intravenous infusion, the reconstituted solution may be further diluted with 100 mL of 5% Dextrose Injection or 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection to a final concentration of approximately 0.4 mg/mL.
6. Flush the intravenous line before and after administration with either 5% Dextrose Injection or 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection.
7. Do not self-inject this medicine.

Storage and Disposal

• Store intact vials at controlled room temperature, protected from light.
• The reconstituted solution may be stored for up to 6 hours at room temperature (up to 30°C) prior to further dilution.
• The diluted solution must be used within 24 hours from the time of initial reconstitution when stored at room temperature (up to 30°C).
• Do not freeze the reconstituted or diluted solution.
• Keep out of reach of children and pets.
• Discard medicines no longer needed as per pharmacist's advice to help protect the environment.

Precautions and Safety

• Inform your doctor if you have severe liver problems, are taking medicines for HIV (like rilpivirine or atazanavir), have a history of allergic reactions to pantoprazole or other proton pump inhibitors, or suffer from bone loss (osteoporosis).
• Long-term use (more than one year), especially at higher doses, may increase the risk of bone fractures and low magnesium levels. Regular monitoring of magnesium levels may be required.
• Pantoprazole may mask symptoms of gastric malignancy; symptomatic response does not rule out gastric cancer.
• Avoid alcohol as it can increase stomach acid production and worsen symptoms.
• If you experience dizziness or disturbed vision, avoid driving or operating machinery.
• Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult their doctor before using this medicine.
• Pantoprazole can cause false results with certain medical tests; inform laboratory staff you are using this medicine.
• Avoid co-administration with midazolam or zinc-containing products through the same Y-site.

Side Effects and Risks

• Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, dizziness, flatulence, diarrhea, stomach pain, constipation, and rash.
• Injection site reactions such as pain, redness, and swelling (thrombophlebitis) may occur.
• Serious side effects, though rare, can include severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling of face/tongue/throat, difficulty breathing), severe skin conditions (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome, Toxic Epidermal Necrolysis), irregular heartbeat, severe or persistent diarrhea, and kidney problems.
• Long-term use may lead to fundic gland polyps.
• Consult your doctor if any side effects persist or worsen.
