GE Lightspeed 16 slice CT

The GE LightSpeed CT scanner series. Originally launched in the early 2000s.

Often considered the sweet spot for general practices and community hospitals. It captures 16 sub-millimeter slices per 0.5-second rotation, allowing for excellent 3D multi-planar reformatting and rapid vascular assessment.

Key Specifications & Architecture

Across most configurations, the LightSpeed line leverages standard high-reliability hardware:

1. X-Ray Tube: Typically anchored by the Performix 6.3 MHU tube or the Performix Pro tube on high-slice configurations, providing high heat dissipation for continuous scanning.
2. Console & Software: Operated via user-friendly dual-screen Xtream or Octane host computers running GE's proprietary SMART productivity suite (including SmartPrep for contrast monitoring and AutomA for automatic patient dose modulation).
3. Gantry Tilt: Features a flexible ±30° helical tilt range to accurately angle scans for complex cranial or spine positioning.
